It was only about a year ago when Dallas and Melissa Hartwig realized the program they created has become a social media craze with about 1.2 million photos with hashtag #whole30.
As an increasing number of people is posting their before and after photos, Melissa Hartwig states they try to keep the messages within social media focused more on “non-scale” victories like fitness performances or energy boost.
After all, one of the rules of Whole 30 is to avoid weighing yourself all the time!
According to Susan Weiner, a nutritionist, while social media platforms can serve as an inspiration for some people they can also set unachievable standards to others.
The reason is simple; people only post the good things which can be quite discouraging to users who can’t keep up. That makes them think there’s something wrong with them because other people do it easily.
Although Whole 30 comes with certain health benefits, there are still concerns about the strict rules and limited diet plan. This inspired Susan Rappaport founder of NuYu Revolution to ditch diet programs and focus on fitness.
According to Ms. Rappaport, the main problem with Whole 30 and other food-based programs is that they are based on following the not-so-short list of rules and make people focus on food only.
What You Can Eat and What to Avoid with Whole 30
When buying food in supermarket, it’s necessary to opt for items with a very few ingredients and avoid items with content that is difficult to understand.
Although it might seem that due to high fruit and vegetable intake juicing for weight loss could help you lose weight more effectively that’s not the case.
The diet program allows certain fruit juices as the only sweetener, but smoothies, protein shakes or fruit and veggie juices that could replace a meal aren’t allowed.
When following this program you should avoid sugar, legumes, grains, alcohol as well as to avoid recreating healthier alternatives of unhealthy foods with approved ingredients.
